Desktop Viewer not Displaying Correct Screen Size

If the "Citrix Display Only Adapter" is in use, then these keys should not be set as memory is allocated dynamically. Failed to load featured products content, Please try again. Customers who viewed this article also viewed. Log in to Verify Download Permissions.

Symptoms or Error A blank or corrupt screen is displayed when connecting to Windows 7 XenDesktop Virtual Delivery Agents standard mode on a client which has one or more 4K resolution monitors.

Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it. Display resolution standards As of this writing the most common resolution for a desktop monitor is x, also referred to as p.

It is important to establish the resolution of a particular 4K monitor. In the context of this article we refer to 4K resolution as x or p which is the most common standard based on the aspect ratio of These ultra-high-resolution monitors are becoming more prevalent in the Enterprise with the arrival of new mobile devices laptops and tablets and as the traditional p monitors get replaced during hardware refresh cycles. Display resolution and multi-monitor support in the Citrix session The maximum resolution and number of monitors that can be used in a Citrix session is determined based on the display adapter in use.

A Citrix session may use different display adapters, each with its own set of capabilities depending on the virtual desktop agent VDA type and the operating system OS. There are other factors to consider as well such as the presence of a graphics processing unit GPU and the HDX graphics mode in use. Display resolution is only limited by the Windows OS capabilities or the available video memory for the machine.

The amount of video memory that a Citrix session can consume can be configured via Citrix policy. Display resolution is limited to pixels in any dimension. The VDA must have sufficient memory allocated to support the desired configuration. Windows 10 — Supports up to 8 monitors. Display resolution is limited to pixels in any dimension on 7.

Note: While there are no controls in place to limit resolutions above 4K in Windows 10 VDAs, Citrix development testing is limited to 4K monitors currently. Citrix Receiver for Windows 4. Performance and scalability considerations In the context of display remoting the size of a user session can vary significantly based on display resolution and the number of monitors alone.

Some deployment considerations are listed below: Both display resolution and the number of monitors increase the session size. A user connecting from and endpoint with a single 4K monitor would result in the same session size as a user connecting with four p monitors. Single server scalability can be reduced significantly by simply upgrading user endpoints with 4K monitors.

If 4K monitor support is required additional server resources should be allocated accordingly to maintain desired user density levels. Bandwidth requirements will also increase with higher resolutions and the number of monitors in use. Bandwidth constraints could limit frame rates and reduce image quality affecting session interactivity and user experience as a result.

The endpoint device must have adequate hardware resources available to support the desired display configuration.

While connecting the client requests desktop with certain size resolution example. If the matching resolution is found, then the desktop with that resolution is given, else the desktop with the nearest supported resolution is given. In some cases, the use case might require a specific desktop resolution, for example x, which is not available at the VDA side then it can be added as a custom resolution in the GPU control panel on VDA. When users try to connect from any tablets, the screen resolution of the tablet should be known.

Once the resolution is identified, they must check on the VDA side to see if it is available. Changing the desktop resolution within the session is not supported. If the resolution change is required then following procedure should be used:. If the desktop is in full screen mode then change the client local screen resolution, disconnect and reconnect.

If the desktop is in windowed mode, then resize the desktop window to the desired size, disconnect, and reconnect to get the desired desktop resolution. So, for dual monitor desktop, VDA should have two or more monitors attached. These monitors can be physical or virtual. On first connection, the desktop might be displayed in the single monitor mode only. To get true multi-monitor desktop, move the desktop window across 2 monitors on client and maximize the desktop using desktop viewer toolbar at the top so that it spans across two monitors.

Now disconnect and reconnect the desktop. On reconnect, the desktop displays in true multi-monitor mode. Note : Select this option only when View system topology is not visible. Click on the monitor that is in Not connected state, as displayed in the following screen shot:. After the virtual monitors are configured using the Forced EDID, the final status is as displayed in the following screen shot:.
